ISLAMABAD - President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Tuesday agreed to investigate thoroughly the Indian ‘evidence’ of the Mumbai attacks.
Credible sources confided to TheNation that both the leaders discussed the issue of the evidence, provided to Pakistan by India the other day, in a meeting held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Both the leaders reviewed overall political situation, tension between Pakistan and India and President’s visit to Afghanistan. The meeting was held before President Zardari’s departure to Kabul.
The President and the Prime Minister also discussed in detail the steps, taken by Pakistan, to de-escalate tension between Pakistan and India. Pakistan has taken enough measures to assist India in the investigation of the Mumbai attacks and now India should show flexibility, the meeting noted, the sources revealed.
The sources also said that Zardari and Gilani further agreed that if any group found involved in the Mumbai carnage after in-depth investigations, a strict action would be taken against it.
They also said that President reiterated that Pakistan condemned state sponsored terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He, according to them, also said that Pakistan’s armed forces were ready to foil any attempt of misadventure.
President Zardari also termed the statement of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as ‘baseless’ and ‘unfortunate’ saying India wanted to exploit the situation and have some other motives behind the propaganda.
The two leaders also deliberated on the existing law and order situation in the country, overall political state of affairs and other national issues.
