Nadal ends Federer reign at Wimbledon

LONDON  - Rafael Nadal beat defending champion Roger Federer in five sets to win the Wimbledon men's singles title on Sunday.

The Spaniard won a classic final 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 6-7 (8/10), 9-7 to add a first title at the All England club to his four French Open victories.

Nadal won the first two sets 6-4 but defending champion Federer fought back by winning tie-breaks in both the third and fourth, saving two match points in the fourth.

The Spaniard had led 5/2 in the fourth set breaker but the champion stormed back to lead 6/5 and claim a set point which Nadal saved. Incredibly, Federer, with his title slipping away, saved two match points - the first with a stunning backhand down the line - and then grabbed another set point at 9/8 before levelling the final when Nadal, stunned by his failing nerve, went long with a forehand.

Federer is bidding to become the first man since the 19th century to win six Wimbledon titles in a row.

 while Nadal, who humiliated the Swiss in the French Open final, was hoping to be the third man to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year.
