LAHO RE - Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has reversed his decision to remove Chairman Competition Commission Khalid A Mirza on the intervention of Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin. The government intervened in the context of flak after the unceremonious exit of Khalid Mirza. Since his sacking, the Press and TV channels were quite critical of the government for sidelining a person who otherwise should have been rewarded for all his good work and for exposing cartel in the cement industry. It is learnt that Tarin informed the Prime Minister that his sacking was against the rules. According to the Finance Minister, Khalid Mirzas appointment as Chairman of the Competition Commission was tenure-based, fixed for a term of three years, from July 2007 to July 2010 and that he could not be removed before the completion of his tenure. It is learnt that Prime Minister on getting a true picture from the Finance Minister decided to reinstate Khalid Mirza.
