India to deploy 10,000 more troops in HK
Source: Our monitoring desk August 8, 2008 THE Indian army is deploying around 10,000 extra soldiers in Occupied Kashmir as the protests over land for Amarnath shrine grow, reports Indian Express.
The troops will be deployed around Jammu, where thousands of people have been protesting to demand the transfer of about 100 acres of land to the Amarnath shrine trust.
The dispute began after the Held Kashmir government had promised to give forestland to the trust that runs the Amarnath cave shrine. “This troop strength is in addition to large contingents of paramilitary forces and police already deployed to contain the unrest,” a senior Indian army officer, asking not to be named, said.
