LAHORE Panic gripped Pakistan-India border area near Wagah Joint Check Post (JCP) on Friday night when Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened indiscriminate fire in Pakistani areas, said a spokesman of the Rangers.
The spokesman said the Indian BSF targeted the Rangers post upon which Rangers had to retaliate. We heard four big bangs at 11.30 pm followed by continued firing which was first started with automatic weapons followed by mortar shells, he added.
The firing continued till 2 am on Saturday.
Keeping in view the situation, Rangers Commander called a flag meeting with the Indian side and recorded his protest with BSF officials, he said.
The spokesman further said the Indian side alleged that firing was started by Pakistani side but it was unprovoked firing by the BSF. Situation was under control but a meeting was also scheduled on Sunday (today) between the two sides, he added.
