ISLAMABAD - The Advocate General Sindh Yousuf Leghari Tuesday presented before the Supreme Court documents regarding the grant of presidential pardon to PML-N Quaid Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
The documents presented before the five-member larger bench, headed by Justice Tassadaq Hussain Jilani, included the then Chief Executives advice to the then President to remit the sentence of life imprisonment awarded to Mian Nawaz Sharif by the High Court of Sindh in its judgment dated October 30, 2000 in the plane hijacking conspiracy case and to remit the sentence of rigorous imprisonment for 14 years awarded by the Accountability Court, Attock Fort, dated July 22, 2000.
The documents also include Sharif brothers application to the then President for waiving off the sentence of imprisonment in various cases mentioned in the application. Copies of agreement for accepting 10 years exile and undertaking given by Shahbaz Sharif regarding travel to the United States for the purpose of treatment were also attached along with the documents presented before the court.
Advocate Khawaja Haris, counsel for Nawaz Sharif, continued his arguments. He said that the allegations against his client in the plane hijacking case were baseless and fabricated and that his client had done what was his constitutional right. Nawaz Sharif had used his powers to end division in the Army, he said.
Khawaja Haris said that it was wrong that Nawaz Sharif had ordered to close Nawab Shah Airport. He said that the plane carrying Pervez Musharraf had landed at 7:48 pm while, he argued, the Army had taken over control of the Prime Minister House and Karachi Airport by 6:45 pm.
He argued that a green signal was given to the plane to land at Nawab Shah Airport but it did not, as, Khawaja Haris said, it was controlled by Pervez Musharraf, who waited for clearance from the Air Traffic Control.
He submitted that all the said record was present in black box of the plane but later it was tampered with.
Khawaja Haris was still arguing when the court time was over and the hearing was adjourned till Wednesday.
