Severe gas supply crunch likely
By SALMAN ABDUHOO October 9, 2008 While stressing on the consumption of rational usage of energy, he said that increase in gas tariff would not affect the consumers, using gas up to four slabs as no tariff had been applied up to fourth slab.
“Up to first four limits you consume around 40 per cent gas and that could be managed by avoiding the exercising of using geysers and heaters,” he explained.
He said that company was still facing the line losses in the range of 1 to 1.5 per cent.
On this occasion, he admitted that gas theft still prevailed, adding that it was made mainly by commercial and industrial sector. And industrialists say trouble looms large as a severe gas crisis would leave scores of big factories without power, besides halting some of the impoverished country’s most ambitious industrial projects.
Worth mentioning is also the fact that every year in winter gas crisis becomes biggest concern and factories reach on the verge of closure due to the crisis.
As a result of increased industrial use, after the expansion of this sector, the country had experienced a shortfall of around 700 million cubic feet of gas last year.
