KARACHI- Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee on Tuesday announced the party's disassociation with Aamir Liaquat Hussain, the former lawmaker of the party and cancelled his basic party membership.

MQM Rabita Committee said that Aamir Liaquat is playing in the hands of anti-MQM forces and talking against the party's policies to promote sectarian hatred.

They said that in the past despite several warnings to former MNA Aamir Liaquat Hussain about his programme which contained sectarian hatred, he did not consider these warnings of the party and due to his attitude MQM has no option but to remove him from all the offices of the party and informally cancel his basic membership.

MQM Rabita Committee announced that now Amir Liaquat has no connection with MQM and MQM is not responsible of any act and matter of Amir.

They said that MQM founder leader Altaf Hussain and party activists despite the opposition of the several corners were striving for religious and sectarian harmony in the country but on the other hand people like Amir Liquat Hussain want sectarian violence in the society only for getting personal benefits.

They recalled that Amir was using the platform of MQM for his popularity through TV channels and elected as the member of National Assembly and later Federal State Minister but despite that he continuously ignored the philosophy of MQM.

The insider in the party said that the reason behind the announcement of the party was the recently published controversial articles and TV channel programmes of the former lawmaker of the party, which contained sectarian bias and was against the party discipline.

It may be noted that the MQM had taken the resignation from Aamir Liaquat Hussain on July 4, 2007, when he was Minister of State for Religious Affairs, in the then Shaukat Aziz govt.

The sources said that the party had taken 'this extreme decision' after taking notice of the his continuous 'hard line and controversial statements' on Lal Masjid stand-off, which was completely against the party lines.

The sources said the MQM had felt the statement was in conflict with the party's policy so Dr Aamir was asked to resign. However, in his resignation letter, he stated that he was resigning because of 'personal reasons'.
