Islamabad Pakistan Armys top brass met Wednesday with COAS General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani in the chair, and thoroughly took stock of the country's security situation, assessing the emerging threats and effective responses to tackle any eventuality. Military sources told TheNation that the 126th Corps Commanders' Conference was significant because of its synchronisation with the conclusion of the two war games Azm-i-Nau, that Pakistan had planned in view of the emerging threats to national security.
Informed sources said that the Conference analysed the challenges relating to terrorism, military operations in Swat-Malakand as well as South Waziristan.
The Conference also took serious note of the situation in the Khyber Agency, especially in the Tirah Valley and vowed to effectively take on the terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e- Islam involved in attacking the security forces in the area.
Sources further said that the military leadership also deliberated at length on the Indian Cold Start military doctrine and evolved effective counter strategies.
The Conference, informed sources said, also discussed India's Afghan ambitions and efforts to destabilise Pakistan.
An ISPR press release issued about the Conference said that the commanders were given a comprehensive briefing on the concluded war games, in which, through a systematic and professional discourse, response to existing as well as emerging threat scenarios was exhaustively evaluated.
The Corps Commanders expressed their satisfaction at the evolution of a comprehensive and integrated response.
The COAS also shared with the Corps Commanders his interaction with Nato commanders during his visit to Brussels and said Pakistans viewpoint on the war against terror was effectively presented.
