ISLAMABAD The US government has reportedly used Indians with malafide intentions and prejudice against Pakistan in order to bring Dr Aafia Siddiqui to 'justice.
In the light of events that have surfaced, this newspaper has found that Indian involvement was highly instrumental in the creation and implication of unfounded and malicious charges against Dr Aafia that emerged out of ethnic bias and orthodox intriguing bravado of some individuals from Indian origin.
In one of her recorded statements, Dr Aafia Siddiqui has alleged that one of the interrogators who questioned her during her detention at Bagram Air Base was Indian. ANI cites Pakistans Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs report, which alleges that the Indian interrogator at Bagram was Aafias contemporary at MIT and was interested in her research work. She was repeatedly asked to do similar research for the interrogator countries. Her interrogators in Afghanistan spoke in American accent and Hindi, the news agency reported in an article in January last year.
The same man who had a history of hatred against Pakistanis was none other than Preet Bharara, who holds the powerful position of US Federal Attorney of New York now. Commenting on US jurys malicious verdict, Bharara had said, Today, a jury has brought Aafia Siddiqui to justice in a court of law for trying to murder American military and law enforcement officers, as well as their Afghan colleagues, as reported by Tom Hays from Associated Press.
This is a verdict based on fear and not on fact Tom quoted Afias lawyer Elaine Sharp as saying. The statement aptly reflects the public opinion in US that Dr Afia was victimised out of religious bias and ethnic hatred.
A New York Times article published in August last year gave a detailed background of Preet Bharara, who holds deep grudges against Pakistanis and Muslims due to his 'ideological beliefs based on sub-continents partition days. The article says about Bharara, His father, a Sikh, and his mother, who was a Hindu, were born in what is now Pakistan, before India and Pakistan were separate countries. In the violent migration that occurred after the 1947 partition, his father and mother both moved to the Indian side, with their families losing property and most of their possessions. His wifes father, a Muslim, also moved from Indian side into Pakistan, also losing his home and much more, as Mr. Bharara put it.
It is a deep rooted belief about Bharara that he deems Pakistanis a cause of what his family faced during partition days and had cherished grudges against Pakistan since he was born.
The same man had been involved in seizing properties of Muslims in the US. A website reported that Preet Bharara had staged the US governments move in November last year when the government seized control of four mosques and a Manhattan skyscraper belonging to a Muslim non-profit group. The seized properties are in New York City, Rockville, Maryland, Houston, Texas, Sacramento, California and Islamic Education Centre in Southwest Houston.
As if this was not enough, Bharara appointed a 'like-minded controversial Indian who is also known for his hatred and venomous propaganda against Pakistan, Anjan Sahni, as Chief of the Terrorism and International Narcotics Unit soon after he assumed the charge of US Federal Attorney of New York. Both the Indian Americans now will have the time of their life going after suspected Muslims from all over the world, an Indian website reports, exposing the 'prospects of its compatriots.
It goes unasked as to why President Obama, who never helps talking 'soft about Muslims and Pakistan has appointed such a controversial figure like Preet Bharara on a key legal post in a place like New York. One yearns if US rulers would ever give up their dual standards and if ever their actions would match their words.
