17th Amend should be revoked: Nawaz

By Maqbool Malik November 11, 2008

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that he had urged President Asif Zardari, in his meeting at dinner on Saturday, that government should immediately restore the deposed judges to November 02, 2007 position as it was critical to ensure rule of law, especially to nullify the “Unlawful, unconstitutional, unjustified and immoral acts of the dictator”.

He said this while talking to the media after his meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Luo Zhaohui, who called on him here on Monday.

Nawaz further said that he had also impressed upon the President Zardari to take certain “tangible” measures to ensure supremacy of the Parliament and for that purpose 17th Amendment should be abolished.

Answering a question, Nawaz Sharif said that he had assured his party’s full support to the PPP-led coalition government in carrying out its constructive role within and without the Parliament and whenever, he said, “We would be asked to play any role for Pakistan and its prosperity, we would love to play it without any hesitation”.
