Mehdi Shah elected G-B CM

SKARDU (Online) - Syed Mehdi Shah of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Friday was elected unopposed as first Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan while Wazir Baig and Jameel Ahmed of PPP were elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively.
Speaker and Deputy Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly also administrated oath of their respective offices. Mehdi Shah is also regional President of PPP. The session of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly was held in which elections to elect Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan, Speaker and Deputy Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly were held. During the session, Mirza Hussain of PML-Q who was running for the slot of Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan announced his withdrawal against Mehdi Shah. After that, Mehdi Shah was elected unopposed as the first Gilgit-Baltistan CM. Wazir Baig and Jameel Ahmed were also elected unopposed as Speaker and Deputy Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly respectively after Amina Insar of PML-Q and Haji Gulbar Khan who were running for the same slot announced their withdrawal.
Outgoing Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly Malik Muhammad Maskeen administrated oath to the newly elected Speaker Wazir Baig who has taken charge of his office. Newly elected Speaker Wazir Baig also administrated oath to the newly elected Deputy Speaker Jameel Ahmed. Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Qamar Zaman Kaira will administer oath to the elected CM. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani facilitated Syed Mehdi Shah, Wazir Baig and Jameel Ahmed for being elected as CM Gilgit-Baltistan, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly respectively.
