Taseer takes up judges appointment with CJP

LAHORE - Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer Thursday held a meeting with Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar
Muhammad Chaudhry in Islamabad and had consultation with the latter over appointment of new additional
judges in Lahore High Court.
According to an official handout issued from Governor’s House here, Salmaan Taseer congratulated Iftikhar
Chaudhry on re-assuming his office as Chief Justice of Pakistan along with the amicable restoration of superior
judiciary.
The Governor lauded the announcement of National Judicial Policy and hoped that it would definitely result in
easy access to justice for the common lot. Pakistan People’s Party had always held independence of judiciary
as its foremost priority and the current regime also believed in the independence of judiciary, the Governor said.
Later, Governor Salmaan Taseer paid a courtesy call on Chairman Senate Farooq H Naek at the Parliament
House Islamabad. Both the leaders exchanged views on matters pertaining to speedy rehabilitation of the IDPs.
It was observed that all-out efforts needed to be made for ensuring prompt relief to the affectees of the war on
terror and not only the govt departments and agencies but also whole of the civil society must be mobilized for
this purpose. Naek said the spontaneous upsurge of sympathy and support witnessed across the length and
breadth of the country should be translated into concrete action.
The spirit of sharing and caring, he said is invaluable indeed which has united the people from Karachi to
Khyber in a common bond. Every effort must be made to mitigate the sufferings of the IDPs from Swat and other
areas to secure peace and harmony for the rest of the country, he added. “This is high time to turn challenges
into opportunities by changing our outlook and perception,” Naek observed.
