NEW YORK - As President Asif Ali Zardari was about to leave after addressing a meeting of the Pakistani community on Sunday, rival factions of Pakistan Peoples Party came to blows creating chaos in the hall.
Security personnel immediately escorted the President out while others tried to separate the brawling men, shouting at the top of their voice, with Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira pleading for calm.
Finally, police brought the situation under control. No arrests were made. The trouble arose when office-bearers of PPP New York presented a plaque to President Zardari.
But members of PPPs USA Chapter objected, saying why they were not allowed to present a gift to their chairman. Hot words began to be exchanged between the two groups, leading to fist fights.
