ISLAMABAD As part of the image building campaign of President Asif Ali Zardari, Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has strongly recommended a book Mard-e-Hur Asif Ali Zardari for libraries of all the educational institutes running under the Federal Government.
Notification (F.1-1/2009(Coord) FDE) issued by the FDE to all the Heads of FG Degree Colleges/Islamabad Model Colleges, FG Higher Secondary/Secondary/Model Schools and FG Middle/Islamabad Model/Junior/Primary Schools, with the approval of Director General (Education) and available with TheNation reveals that the book has been found useful for the students and hence strongly recommended for libraries of all the abovementioned schools and colleges.
It was also astonishing that in the notification, the concerned quarters have directed the buyers to purchase that book directly from a person who also did editing of the book. Phone numbers and the residence address of the resource person are also written on the notification, which is very unusual thing.
It is pertinent to note that Akram Sayyal, having his loyalties with the ruling PPP, has written that book. Book contains 350 pages and is available at a 'cheap price of Rs 500.
One of the Directors of FDE wishing not be named while talking to TheNation said if the notification carries the words strongly recommended and stamped name of a person as selling authority with his/her cell numbers then it is very unusual, as FDE was not supposed to write all that stuff on a notification. However, in case of curricular books the procedure is there, he added.
Standard procedure to keep a book in a library of an educational institute is that the concerned quarters constitute a committee, members of the committee hold meeting and check the contents of the book and then approved it for libraries, he added.
Mujahid Bhatti, Editor of the book Mard-e-Hur Asif Ali Zardari while talking to TheNation said that if a dictators book could become part of libraries then why not a book written on a democratically elected President. He said that they had even got permission from the Punjab government and now the book would also be available in libraries of educational institutes of the Punjab.
