Nepotism continues to rear its ugly head

ISLAMABAD Like many public sector companies, OGDCL is also being used to place blue-eyed favourites of politicians and ministers for jobs with huge benefits. One such case is of Muhammad Mureed Rahimoon who was appointed as General Manager (HR) in OGDCL while he does not deserve to be appointed at the said post.
Reliable sources revealed to TheNation that the said person was a grade-18 officer and as per department rules any officer lower than grade 20 could not be appointed as GM in OGDCL.
The sources informed that the said person was allegedly the blue-eyed of Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and was appointed in OGDCL on deputation when Qureshi was also holding the office of Ministry of Petroleum. The said person was appointed on August 18, 2008 on the direction of the Ministry of Petroleum, sources maintained.
Documents available with TheNation show that Rahimoon, whose basic pay as regular government servant is Rs 17,560, is drawing more than half million rupees from OGDCL after adding different allowances. These are equivalent to the allowances of a regular MD of the department.
