Colonel dead in shootout

QUETTA - Lieutenant Colonel Jawad Ahmed, Wing Commander Punjgur Rifles, died in an exchange of firing with drug traffickers in Mashkail, a town which borders Iran, Thursday.
According to official sources, Lt-Col Jawad on a tip-off started chasing the smugglers in Mashkail area when they opened fire on his party. He received three bullets in chest and succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while other FC men were also injured. Sources say the culprits managed to cross the border and entered Iran. The body of martyred officer was flown to Quetta through a helicopter, which will be subsequently sent to his native village in Mardan.
APP adds: Law enforcement agencies foiled a potential terrorism bid by seizing a huge cache of arms and ammunition from Kanoki area of Zhob near Pak-Iran border.
