ISLAMABAD Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Wednesday said judiciary, especially the lawyers had important role to play for the establishment of strong and powerful country.
They have worked hard and can play a vital role to ensure justice for development of the country, said the Chief Justice while addressing the participants of course of Trial Advocacy held at Federal Judicial Academy, Islamabad.
He reiterated the judiciarys resolve to uphold the noble cause of justice for all. The CJ said that the nation was going through fire and water now-a-days in war against terrorism. He, however, said, a nation was considered strong when it has strong judicial system to face challenges. Society cannot make progress without independent judicial system, he said, adding, The basic duty of a judge is to dispense justice according to law and the Constitution, he explained. Chief Justice said, If we dont follow our Constitution solemnly, we would not be able to bring change in our society. Without the cooperation of the 'Bar it is not possible to achieve the object, he explained.
Quoting the saying of Hazrat Ali (RA), the CJ said, Society cannot live without justice adding without an independent and strong judiciary society cannot even make progress. He also quoted the remarks of the British Prime Minister Churchill, who said that they (the British) would certainly win the war, if their courts were dispensing justice to the masses. Advising the young lawyers, he said that they must be committed, diligent and dedicated towards their cause to achieve their goal. Earlier Dr Faqir Hussain, Registrar Supreme Court briefed the participants about the National Judicial Policy 2009 and administration of justice and welcomed the participants. Pervaiz Ahmed Chawala, DG Federal Judicial Academy briefed about the course and thanked Chief Justice for initiating such course for the legal fraternity. Asif Toseef, President, Rawalpindi Bar Association also addressed the participants.
