Aitzaz admits differences with PPP leadership over judges
May 14, 2008 Before and during Feb 18 elections, he said, the Parliament and government were under control of President Pervez Musharraf therefore the lawyers were against elections.
No constitutional package was tabled before the Constitutional committee set up followed by talks between PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif in Dubai for restoration of judiciary, he maintained. Despite reservation, he said, he had agreed to accept PCO judges on ad hoc basis but the government wanted to reinstate deposed judges on ad hoc basis, which created differences.
He said he always apprised PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari about his stance on restoration of judiciary but he (Zardari) did not agreed on his stance. Aitzaz Ahsan said that personally he was against burning flags of any country and steps of legal fraternity to burn flags of US during protest demonstration was wrong because it creates differences and judges and lawyers of US supported us a lot.
He appealed lawyers not to burn flags of any country in future. "Some foreign hands can try to sabotage movement of lawyers, he warned. Problems would remain stay if the judiciary were not restored.
Democracy and country will continue to face consequences till rule of President Musharraf," he maintained.
If the PCO judges of Supreme Court could not release their own colleagues then what relief and justice they would provide to the nation, he questioned. "The country will remain in darkness if judiciary comprises such type of judges," he concluded.
