Govt releases 34 Indians
Source: Our Staff Reporter August 15, 2008 Talking to The Nation the official said that the notification for their release was issued by the government as a goodwill gesture on the occasion of Independence Day of Pakistan. These fishermen came out of Juvenile Jail at 9am and after about an hour they were taken to Lahore in an air-conditioned bus to be handed over to Indian authorities at Wagah border on Friday (today).
All arrangements for transportation of these young fishermen were made by Saiban Welfare Organisation and its General Secretary Haider Ali Haider accompanied them to Lahore. About 400 Indian fishermen were still detained in the Pakistani prisons and same number of Pak fishermen had been detained in Indian prisons.
