CJ takes note of torture in Faisalabad jail

ISLAMABAD Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Thursday directed Inspector General Prisons to take strict action against those police officials who brutally tortured prisoners in Faisalabad Central Jail.
The action was taken on an application moved by some prisoners of Faisalabad Central Jail including Muhammad Nadeem. Moreover, they requested the Chief Justice to take notice as majority of the prisoners are punished and tortured without any reason in the said jail.
The Chief Justice on Thursday directed authorities concerned to initiate action against the culprits who were tortured on the nod of Chief Warden Mazhar. He also directed Superintendent Faisalabad Jail to consider all the prisoners who have been subjected to torture. He further directed IG Prisons to take action against responsible officers.
Earlier, a report had been sought from District and Sessions Judge Faisalabad. The report, which was submitted in the court on Thursday, said, Statement of the applicant has been recorded which fully supports his version. The report further said that statements of medical officers had already been recorded.
The role of the Chief Warden was a root cause in the said incident and the allegations levelled in the application are fully established through sufficient material, the report further said.
