LAHORE -PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has proposed tripartite consensus government representing all three major parties in Punjab, and announced that no member of the Chaudhry family will be included in any future set-up.
He was addressing a news conference along with MPA Moonis Elahi at his residence here on Saturday.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, while mentioning number of seats won by the PML-N, Pakistan Peoples Party and PML-Q - 142, 109 and 84 respectively - maintained that as no single party was in a position to form government as a single entity, these parties should be given share in the government proportionality to their strength in the Assembly, which, according to him, would be useful for restoring the mandate given on February 18.
Commenting on the present crisis, he said the electoral alliance of the PPP and N-League had its fate. "I can't put the onus of the crisis on any of the two, as both are responsible, whether more or less but the nation is facing its consequences," he observed, adding that it was imperative, that instead of going for power or grabbing share in the government, the political leadership must take the country out of the crisis with wisdom, sagacity and foresight. "For this, the Q-League is ready to play its role, and if the friends of the past and the foes of today (PPP and PML (N) agree, we are ready to take foremost initiative. It is not a matter of ego or honour, but a question of country's survival," he said.
Shujaat further observed that Nawaz Sharif might not have hijacked the airplane, but somebody in the Punjab did hijack the mandate and everyone was aware of that. "In the larger national interest and for the reconciliation's sake, it is essential that our hijacked mandate is delivered back to us safely. And similarly the tampering done in Balochistan with our mandate must be reversed as well," Shujaat added.
"With the sentiments of generosity and goodwill, every party should respect the original mandate given by the people and the members of the Punjab Assembly, who won their seats on the tickets of the PML-Q must be sent back to the Party. And in the Punjab, a consensus government should be formed," he said, while asserting that in order to put an end to rumours about the future set-up, and holding of important slots by the Chaudhry family, no one from the family would be considered for any slot.
