Liaquat Baloch suggests national govt

By: Shahid Rao | Published: November 15, 2009

RAWALPINDI - Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Central Secretary General Liaquat Baloch has demanded a broad-based national government comprising of representatives from all political parties since the present government has lost its credibility and confidence of the people.
He further asked the Government to constitute an independent and free Election Commission by giving financial and administrative autonomy to it so that fair and transparent elections could be held in the country.
Liaquat Baloch stated this while addressing a press conference at Al-Ikram building, District Headquarters of JI here on Saturday.
Punjab Naib Ameer of Jamaat and Ex MNA Mian Muhammad Aslam, Provincial Secretary Nazir Ahmed Janjua, District Ameer Rawalpindi Raja Abdul Waheed, City Secretary General Shamas-ur-Rehman Swati, Brig(R) Abdul Qayum, and Malik Azam were also present on the occasion.
Central Secretary General JI alleged that engineered polls in Gilgit-Baltistan had proved that the Government was not able to hold fair and impartial elections in Pakistan.
He added that rigging in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections was at such a large scale that all the political parties including MQM, which is the ‘master of fixing elections’, had raised their voices against the rigging and even India was making fun of our Government on these rigged elections.
He said that PPP and PML-N had differences on the Balochistan package and the confidence of Baloch people may be restored by tracing out all the missing persons. “If Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari could return to the country then why could the self-exiled leadership of Balochistan not be repatriated to their country”, Liaquat Baluch said.
