Pervaiz Elahi resigns as Opposition Leader

ISLAMABAD - Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Sunday resigned from his office.
The PML-Q leader has faxed his resignation to the Acting President and Speaker National Assembly, Dr Fehmida Mirza.
After his resignation, the slot would go to Chaudhry Nisar Ali of PML-N who has already filed an application in this regard with the Speaker’s chamber.
Pervez Elahi said that he had been elected as the Leader of Opposition in a democratic manner and now those who are striving for this post also remained part of this government till September 13. He said that he would continue to work for the supremacy of the Parliament.
Later, talking to media persons at his residence, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain confirmed the report and said that the act was not meant to forge an alliance with PPP from their side or seeking ministries.
