LARKANA - Some people with malafide intentions are trying to use her to score points against her brother-in-law but she will not allow that, said Sanam Bhutto, daughter of late premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Addressing a news conference at Naudero House on Wednesday, she said: I have no interest in politics and I am visiting may ancestral village only to take care of matters relating to my lands, which my sister, Shaheed Mohtarma handled during her lifetime. When my sister was alive, she helped me and took care of my lands. Unfortunately, I have learnt that my sister-in-law, Ghinwa has taken over management of my lands from my manager, and I have to come to take it back, she informed.
Ms Bhutto said she was appealing to the people to ensure that her lands are not taken over. She lamented that although Ghinwa does not even talk to her, and neither do Fatima and Zulfikar Junior, Ghinwa still took over her lands. Now who do I go to? She questioned, adding if I go to the President, people will say that he is helping me because he is my brother-in-law.
Therefore, I appeal to the people of Pakistan. I dont want anyone to take over my lands when my back is turned. My mind is not on these things since my sister died. I needed time to mourn her loss, but, Ghinwa, who does not even acknowledge me is now taking over management of my land, and she will usurp my land, she said adding I appeal to the people like my family has always done. She commented that she wished she had watched her sisters press conferences, as that would have taught her how to talk to the press. In response to a question regarding Mumtaz Bhutto, Ms Bhutto claimed that he was not a Sardar, and he had no right to register an FIA on Shaheed Mohtarams murder. He was never supportive of my sister and always worked against her. Where was Mumtaz when my sister and mother were in Sihala Jail, she asked. Why did not he come when people were dying for a leader after my father was murdered? When my sister spent years in exile, where was he? She said I would never allow him (Mumtaz Bhutto) to register an FIR for my sisters murder. Ms Bhutto recalled that while she spoke to Shaheed Mohtarmas children almost everyday, her brother Murtazas children did not speak with her. Expressing her regret over her niece and nephews estrangement, she said, My sisters kids are like my own, and so are Murtazas kids. Fatima used to live with me for months, as a child, but, now she and her brother have been brainwashed into not meeting me, she claimed.
Accompanied by Sindh Information Minister, Shazia Marri, Sanam Bhutto lambasted those elements that are trying to create uncertainty. Any news about me being unhappy with the way the party is run, are rubbish, I have no interest in politics, and there is no truth in these rumours, she maintained.
Meanwhile, responding to a question regarding the PPP governments performance, Shazia Marri said the PPP and its coalition partners were able to form the govt today through mass public support.
The principles, for which Shaheed Quaid-e-Awam and his valiant daughter sacrificed their lives, are the benchmark of the current government.
We remain committed to ensuring sustained democracy, through which peoples issues are to be addressed, she said adding it was important for everyone to work together to ensure that this government sees the completion of its constitutional term.
