ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has emphasised the importance of developing greater understanding within and outside the country regarding the magnitude of the damage done by the floods in Pakistan.
Talking to Federal Finance Minister, Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, who called on him at the PMs House here on Sunday, he directed to the Minister to ensure that the funds received should be handled with transparency and efficiently thus utilising them to maximise their impact. He said that given the scale of the damage done by the floods, it is important for all segments of the society to come together.
Overall economic situation with particular reference to the impact of the recent floods and the strategies for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the flood-hit areas were reviewed in the meeting.
It was decided to further develop the idea, agreed between the PM and PML-N Quaid, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in their recent meeting, to evolve an institutional arrangement, which was not only a responsible move but would also win the confidence of both the citizen and overseas partners. He directed the Finance Minister to work expeditiously in this regard.
