ISLAMABAD - Following the footsteps of China, Iran has also expressed reservations over the increasingly expanding US presence in the region and called for concerted efforts by the Muslim Ummah to counter US designs, TheNation has reliably learnt on Tuesday.
According to sources, Iranian Ambassador in Pakistan Mashallah Shakiri who is believed to have met with Jamaat-i-Islamis Central Ameer Syed Munawar Hussain here Tuesday exchanged views on matters of mutual interests including the media reports about US massive plans to expand it embassy in Pakistan.
The sources said that the Iranian envoy expressed his deep concerns over the US moves seeking to increase its presence in Pakistan, Afghanistan and other regional countries and emphasised the need for moderate Islamic forces to join hands and foil the US designs. The sources further said that both sides emphasised the need for launching public awareness campaigns by the moderate Islamic forces about the US designs in the region and through the platform of Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) aiming at greater Muslim unity to face these challenges.
