'Q' to face moral shock if Musharraf quits silently

By IRFAN BUKHARI August 17, 2008

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League-Q’s central command has asked Musharraf to face impeachment and prove allegations levelled against him as false, as resignation would severely damage the political credibility of the party.

Ghaus Bux Mehar, PML-Q parliamentarian from Sindh, said that if the President stepped down silently without answering the allegations, it would damage Q-League’s public image as the Party had been defending him on the same charges. He said that the President, along with his lawyers, should counter the allegations levelled against him in the impeachment reference so that people could know who did what. “The President should come up with solid rebuttal in the Parliament and prove the charges to be baseless”, he said.

Sheikh Waqas Akram, PML-Q legislator from Jhang talking to TheNation said that the President should never accept defeat by tendering his resignation. “President Musharraf must face ruling coalition’s impeachment motion in the Parliament and expose each and every detail of his deal, done last year with PPP leadership so that the people of Pakistan could comprehend the true picture of the whole political episode”, he observed.
