ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday merged Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Ministry of Law and Justice.
Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Babar Awan will look after the affairs of newly formed Ministry for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. The Prime Minister has ordered the merger of two ministries as part of the governments austerity drive and to scale down the growing expenditure.
The sources informed TheNation that adjustment would be made on the slot of state minister for the ministry, as earlier two state ministers were working with these two ministries. The sources were of the view that either the portfolio of State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ms Mahreen Anwar Raja would be changed or the State Minister for Law and Justice Mohammad Afzal Sindhu would be adjusted somewhere else.
As part of the austerity drive and to curtail the government expenditure, the Ministries of Investment and Privatisation were merged while the Ministry of Planning Commission was abolished.
The sources in the Government informed that in the next phase, some more ministries would be abolished and merged in other ministries while a number of state ministers would be shown the door for their lacklustre performance.
