ISLAMABAD - Taking strong notice of the malicious campaign against countrys nuclear arsenal, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Saturday made it loud and clear that no foreign entity or state would be provided access to countrys strategic assets, adding that Pakistan had immaculate nuclear weapons security regime.
About the ongoing military operation in Swat and Malakand Division launched to wipe out extremists, militants and terrorists, Premier Gilani termed the operation vital for countrys survival and said the whole nation was standing behind Army.
Addressing the Central Executive Committee and Federal Council of the Pakistan Peoples Party here at the PM House, the Premier said, We cant afford to lose the war. Inshallah we will win, as otherwise countrys survival is at stake.
The Prime Minister said that the enemies of the country were out to discredit its nuclear capability and for that reason linking the unrest in North of the country with the fragility of the nuclear security.
Disinformation is being spread deliberately to undermine Pakistan, he said, adding that nuclear weapons were the cornerstone of Pakistans deterrence strategy and enjoyed complete national consensus and support. It was the founder of the PPP Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto who initiated Pakistans nuclear programme and we are proud to say that we are the pioneers, he said.
We are determined to retain nuclear deterrence at all costs while ensuring foolproof security of our nuclear assets, Premier said and added, No use of coercion, direct or indirect, will ever force Pakistan to compromise on its core security interests.
Pakistan has developed and operationlised an immaculate nuclear weapons security regime, which is multi-layered and have stringent access controls and incorporates modern technical solutions and rigorous human reliability programmes and it conforms to international best practices and has the capacity to meet all challenges, Gilani said.
Insinuations to the contrary are plain mischievous and designed to create doubts in the minds of the people of Pakistan and I dismiss these with contempt, he added.
About the ongoing military operation in Swat, Premier Gilani said that government had taken all the stakeholders on board before launching the operation and had given maximum time to let the dialogue process prevail and peace deal work. He said, They [Taliban] wanted to make a state within state and were working on a foreign agenda.
The Prime Minister, who dwelt at length, about the events leading to taking the difficult decision of launching the offensive, said the nation not only backed the countrys Armed Forces, but would also stand by their brethren who had been forced to move out of their homes.
We will win not only militarily, but will also ensure that the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are being well looked after. If they cannot be handled properly, we will again lose the war, he warned.
He said half a billion rupees were released initially and during his address another one billion were allocated for the IDPs. He said General Nadeem would look after the Special Supports Group to provide relief to the people displaced due to the army action.
The Prime Minister said the Pakistani nation knew the real face of the terrorists and stood united for action against the militants. He recalled the peace deal in Swat and said it was agreed upon as the entire nation wanted to resolve the issue peacefully through dialogues and not through guns.
He recalled that he had asked the President to let the Parliament decide as it was the supreme body and the House unanimously gave a go-ahead to the provincial government to go for the Nizam-e-Adl. However, when it came to the implementation of the peace deal, the militants challenged the writ of the government and threatened the very existence of the country, he added.
He said the militants and the Taliban spoiled Pakistans image in the world and started threatening the elected parliamentarians of the country. Was this the result of the sacrifice rendered by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto? We cannot let a handful of people hijack the entire system or the government, he said.
Gilani said he discussed the matter in detail with the elected representatives of the area and apprised them of the gravity of the situation. He said the enemies of Pakistan were eyeing countrys nuclear assets, adding that these were under threat. He said all the stakeholders including the coalition partners were taken on board, but since operational details could not be divulged, it was not possible to evacuate the people beforehand. He said the matter was also discussed within the cabinet and detailed meetings were held with coalition partners, adding that later, the coalition partners were also briefed by the Chief of Army Staff.
Gilani advised all the party workers, leaders and ministers to speak with one voice and the focus should be on Pakistans integrity.
He directed that the Ministry of Commerce would be assisted by the Ministers of State for Finance and Economic Affairs to contact the donors. He also directed that the local and international donors must distribute properly and ensure that people there didnt feel humiliated. They are our guests and we must ensure that they are treated well.
He appreciated the Minister for Water and Power for providing electricity to 12 IDPs camps. He said every effort should be made to provide maximum relief to the people who had shifted from a cooler climate to a relatively warmer place. He appreciated the media for its role and pointed out the inadequacies in the relief camps to help the displaced people.
