Operation to continue until goals achieved: COAS

ISLAMABAD – Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Thursday chaired the 124th Corps Commanders’ Conference that deliberated in length various professional matters.
According to ISPR, the conference was part of the regular monthly meetings. It further said that a comprehensive overview of various professional matters of the Army was presented during the conference, and the participants expressed satisfaction over the state of operational preparedness of the Pak Army.
However, sources maintained that the conference also discussed various challenges being faced by the country and resolved to tackle them in line with the best national interest. The sources further said the conference discussed the surge in US troops in Afghanistan and its implications for Pakistan. In the Corps Commanders Conference, Chief of the Army Staff took the commanders into confidence over his meetings with Admiral Mike Mullen and Centcom Commander General David Petraeus. The COAS also took the commanders on board over the latest US demands including launching of military operation against militants in North Waziristan and expansion of drone attacks against alleged Afghan Taliban hideouts in Balochistan. General Kayani according to the sources said that the military operation in South Waziristan would be taken to its logical end and terrorists would be killed in their hideouts. The corps commanders also discussed development and rehabilitation plan for South Waziristan. The COAS said that all out efforts would be made to make the proposed plan a success.
