At least 30 people were killed and more than hundred other received serious injuries in a suicide blast at a mosque here in Akakhel area of Tirah Valley on Thursday.
A suicide bomber blew himself up inside a mosque and a base used by militants, killing at least 30 people and injuring more than 100 others. At time of attack, Nimaz-e-Zahur was being offered.
According to initial report, a militant commander belong to Lashkar-e-Islam Khalid Jan was among 30 dead. The mosque was completely destroyed in the blast while windowpanes of nearby buildings were also shattered. The locals of the area have started relief activities themselves because the area where the blast occurred is far away from Khyber agency.
The injured have been shifted to different hospital of Hangu and Peshawar. According to Commissioner Kohat Division Khalid Khan, we have report about a blast in remote areas of Tirah valley. Due to absence of road network in the area, the rescue teams could not reach at the site.
On the other hand, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have strongly denounced the blast in Khyber agency and made it clear that terrorists would not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious design.
In a separate condolence messages, they said that the suicide attack in a mosque was a barbaric act of terrorists. Handful terrorists would not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious design, they said, adding that, such cowardly act can not be deter Government's resolve to fight against militancy.
War against terrorism would be continued till their logical end, they said. Chairman Senate Farooq H. Naek, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Farzana Raja, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira and Chief Pakistan Muslim League (N) Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif have also condemned the blast in strongest term.
