KARACHI The ongoing wave of target-killings continues unabated in the City as four activists of Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqqiqi (MQM-H) were gunned down on Wednesday. Sohail Anjum, a legal advisor of the party chief Afaq Ahmed Khan, is also among the latest casualties.
According to details, two unknown young assailants riding a bike targeted the taxi carrying MQM-H activists in broad daylight on Tipu Sultan Road in Ferozabad Police Stations precincts.
Terming the incident as target-killings, the police say the two attackers opened indiscriminate fire on the cab, killing three on the spot and injuring two others, including a passer-by.
It is reported that the assailants fled the scene easily; however, the police officials claim that a traffic warden deployed at a nearby roundabout and the cops in a mobile parked near the crime scene also opened fire at the culprits but they were managed to escape.
The dead bodies and the injured were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where one of the wounded succumbed to the injuries. The deceased are Sohail Anjum Advocate, Shafiq, Sabir and Akhtar Hussain while the unfortunate passer-by is identified as Yamin whose condition is stated to be out of danger.
Police officials said the two attackers were wearing helmets and used 9mm pistols. Police have also found several bullet shells from the spot. They (the victims) sustained multiple bullets, they added.
Meanwhile, taking notice of the incident, police high ups have suspended Aurangzaib Khattak, SHO Ferozabad Police Station.
The deceased, Sohail Anjum Advocate, was a legal advisor of Afaq Ahmed Khan, the detained MQM-H chief, who along with other colleagues had been facing various charges of kidnapping and murder in local courts.
According to MQM-H, at the time of the assassinations, the deceased were retuning back from the Central Prison after attending the hearing of a case registered against Afaq in a special court within the jail premises.
All the four slain MQM-H men were the residents of Landhi area. Sohail Anjum (45), son of Rashid Hussain, has left behind a widow and five daughters.
Another victim, Shafiq was in-charge of MQM-H Landhi Unit 86 while Sabir and Akhtar were the party workers.
It is the third identical incident of targeting high profile activists of religious and political parties during the last few days. Earlier on March 11, unidentified motorcyclists targeted the car of defunct Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan leader Maulana Ghafoor Nadeem in which Nadeem and his son Muavia were killed and three others wounded. Later in the evening, the attackers riding a bike assassinated four top clerics of the same sect including the leader of Almi Majlis-e-Khatm-e-Nabuwwat Mufti Saeed Ahmed Jalalpuri.
