ISLAMABAD Although their was no clear mention of fixing responsibility of NRO fiasco in the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting of Pakistan Peoples Party held at Presidency on Monday night, yet sources in the party disclosed that some heads would definitely roll on the issue and the changes in the list of the Presidents advisors are also expected.
The sources in the party disclosed that in Monday meeting, some members of the CEC did raise the issue of mishandling of National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) and the humiliation faced by the PPP when it backfired and even the coalition partners including MQM, which was the major beneficiary of the ordinance, ditched PPP. The sources informed that some of the party leaders including Senator Mian Raza Rabbani and Senator Safdar Abbassi came out with scathing criticism on party policies and the failure of the frontrunners of PPP government in tackling the issues in an efficient fashion.
The sources further disclosed that President Zardari and Premier Gilani took the criticism with big heart and assured the CEC that corrective measures would be taken. The sources further informed that in the one-on-one meeting held between President Zardari and Premier Gilani prior to the CEC meeting, both the leaders had taken stock of the prevailing political situation in the country with special reference to the systematic campaign launched by certain quarters to discredit the incumbent political dispensation.
These sources further informed that President Zardari had given free hand to Premier Gilani to make changes in his team of lieutenants and replace the inefficient ones with vibrant and active members from the party ranks.
The sources further disclosed that the process of reorganising the team of advisors in the Presidency was also underway and a number of members of President Zardaris team would be replaced in the days to come.
The sources further informed that it was further decided in the meeting between President Zardari and Premier Gilani that though the coalition partners had ditched them at the eleventh hour on the issue of NRO, it was the unanimous view of both the top PPP men that they would keep the coalition partners along for the greater cause of democracy.
The sources dispelled the impression that there would be some severe reaction towards the MQM following their betrayal to PPP on NRO and disclosed that President Zardari had made it clear to the party leaders that they would not afford any confrontation with their coalition partners at this juncture.
