FAISALABAD - Protesting against the alleged maltreatment and lengthy loadshedding, a large number of incensed prisoners of district jail Faisalabad torched their barracks here Monday.
The inmates of the jail set ablaze their barracks and accused the police of torturing an inmate brutally. Some infuriated prisoners also scaled the roof of the jail and chanted slogans against the administration.
Meanwhile, the jail staff summoned police contingent to foil any bid by the prisoners to escape. Rescue 1122 fire fighter staff also reached the spot to control the fire.
Two inmates who received burn injuries were taken to hospital. However, the jail administration succeeded in defusing the ugly situation after talks with the protestors who went back to their barracks after registering their protest.
Taking serious notice of the situation, IG Jail Kokab Nadeem Warriach has suspended Superintendent district jail Faisalabad and nominated DIG Jails as Inquiry Officer.
