ISLAMABAD - A three-member bench of the Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing with regard to eligibility of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif till Feb 23.
The bench headed by Justice Javed Iqbal heard the petition filed by Shahid Orakzai, one of the candidates for PP-10, Rawalpindi, against the eligibility of Shahbaz. During the course of proceedings, Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan informed the court that he could not argue on the case due to ill health.
Khawaja Haris Advocate, counsel for Punjab Chief Minister, requested the court to allow him to argue. The arguments are being prepared in the light of petitions seekings, he added. Justice Javed Iqbal in his remarks said it was an important case without any equivalent in the past and it enhanced responsibility of the apex court.
The court will hear the case in details, therefore the petitioners as well as the learned counsels should be prepared themselves with full zeal considering the constitutional position of the case, he explained.
It is pertinent to mention here that Shahid Orakzai in his petition has challenged the eligibility of Shahbaz Sharif for the chief minister office.
