PESHAWAR - Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amir, Senator Prof Ibrahim Khan, has warned that they would not hesitate to besiege the US embassy and consulates in Pakistan if the US did not stop the drone attacks in FATA.
Strongly condemning the US drone attacks, he said that lodging verbal protests with American administration on these strikes would not work, adding that the government should not shed crocodile tear on the attacks rather it should take practical steps. He said this while speaking at a gathering of the JI workers on Saturday in Peshawar. Ibrahim said that it was a right time for the government to stop all sorts of supplies to the US and allied forces troops stationed in Afghanistan via Pakistan. In order to record their protest and anguish over the release of Raymond Davis and drone attacks, he said that a JI-sponsored protest rally would be held on March 25 in the provincial metropolis.
Due to the corrupt government and flawed governance, the sovereignty of the country had been put at stake, he remarked adding that the government should immediately give up the alliance led by the US. Peace would never return until the US remains present in the region.
Speaking on the occasion ex-MNA Sabir Awan said that JI had the capability to pull the country out of the prevailing crises, adding that time had come to get united for overcoming the challenges being faced by the country and its people.
He alleged that ANP-led coalition government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had done nothing for the welfare and prosperity of the people of the province and the present government was involved in minting money.
Meanwhile in Swabi, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Central General Secretary Laiqat Baloch said that Pakistan army should take 'practical and meaningful steps to thwart the US drone strikes instead of only condemning the killing of innocent people.
Talking to media here on Saturday, Baloch said the predator strike was carried out on peaceful citizens, including the elders and Jirga members who enjoyed a high-valued place in the society and they were harbingers of peace. He said the leaders of his party had been of the view since very beginning that Washington had been using Pakistan as an instrument for its global agenda. The recent attacks and killing of innocent Pakistanis should be immediately stopped and it was the first and foremost responsibility of the government to provide security to the people. While answering a query, he said that both the Federal and Punjab Governments were responsible for a covert deal under which the American CIA contractor, Raymond Davis, was flown into an airbase at Afghanistan from Pakistan.
He rejected the Prime Ministers statement that no one should be blamed for the blood money deal which had invited the people criticism, leading to protest demonstrations across the country. Both the Federal and Punjab Governments were involved in the deal with CIA. They paved the way for release of Davis who not only killed two Pakistanis but was a terrorist involved in a conspiracy to weaken our country, he said, adding that, Davis catching flight for Afghanistan was really a shameful day for the whole nation.
The release of Davis had made clear that how much the rulers of our country are under the Washingtons umbrella and how the American leaders have been dictating to them, he said, adding that in contrast the US had abandoned Pakistan on various occasions. Replying a question he said that the economic position of the country has been deteriorating with the passage of time and the nightmare of the mini-budget had already retuned to hunt the destitute. The economic position of the country had badly declined due to wrong policies. The increasing trends of corruption in the country caused more financial burden on the poor people, he said.
The ruling elites failed to take steps for reducing the people burden, he said, adding putting more financial burden through the price hike created a peculiar situation for the people. The new phenomena of the exorbitant prices resulted in making hollow the buying power of the people.
Later, he also addressed a gathering at Topi. Usman Khan, former MNA and district amir of the party, Saeed Zada also spoke on the occasion. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and Public Relations Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that US drone attacks were against the sovereignty of Pakistan and termed it interference in the affairs of an independent and sovereign state.
