Pak Foreign Secy meets LK Advani
July 21, 2008 NEW DELHI (APP) - Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir who arrived here Sunday for fifth round of Composite Dialogue, said that Pakistan would hold talks with India with open and positive mind.
Talking to newsmen on his arrival at Palam Airport, the Foreign Secretary said he expected positive outcome from the talks.
He said issue of Kashmir and Confidence Building Measures besides other matters would come under discussion during the meeting with his Indian counterpart Shivshankar Menon on Monday (today).
Earlier, the Foreign Secretary along with his members of the delegation crossed over to India through Wagah-Attari border and took flight from Amritsar Airport to reach the Indian capital.
Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir, who arrived in New Delhi on Sunday afternoon on a two-day visit to India called on Leader of the Opposition L K Advani at his residence.
He was accompanied by Shahid Malik, Pakistan High Commissioner and members of his delegation. The Foreign Secretary thanked Advani, for sparing the time to meet him in the midst of the current internal political situation. He expressed the hope that the BJP and all other parties would continue to support the dialogue process.
Advani responded by stressing the importance that he attached to the peace process with Pakistan, which had been started by the BJP in 2004. He assured the Foreign Secretary of his party’s full support to the current peace process in “letter and spirit” and added, “On the objective of achieving peace, there is consensus among all the political parties.”
Fondly recalling his visit to Pakistan in 2005, Advani called it “one of the un-forgettable events of his life.” Advani added that the dialogue process should continue uninterruptedly
irrespective of internal political dynamics in both the countries. Highlighting the commonalities between the two countries, the Foreign Secretary said that since the launch of the composite dialogue process in January 2004, a lot of improvements are visible in the relations between the two countries. He said that there should be resolve on both sides to settle all outstanding issues in an amicable manner.
