Complete shutterdown strike in Quetta
Published: November 21, 2009
No passenger coach and other buses in the morning could leave for Karachi and other parts of the country from Quetta due to the blockade of highways at various points.
All government and private educational institutions also remained closed while attendance in offices also remained thin as compared to normal days.
Courts proceedings were also badly affected as lawyers did not appear in courts due to the strike call given by Baloch Bar Association.
Traffic was also thin at the coastal highway linking Karachi to Gwadar and other areas of Makran.
However, in Quetta, the wheel-jam strike call was partially observed, as traffic was witnessed plying on the roads of the City.
A bakery shop owned by Abdul Jabbar was attacked with a grenade in Machh town. Grenade attack badly affected the shop ,however, no casualty occurred.
The administration had deployed heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies, including police, Frontier Corps (FC), and the Balochistan Constabulary in Quetta to maintain peace during the strike.
Mobile squads of police and FC continued patrolling the City throughout the day.
Rallies and pubic meetings were also held in different towns of Balochistan including Sibi, Kech and Kharan in connection with death anniversary of Nawabazda Balaach Marri.
