2 bomb attacks target troops in Waziristan

PESHAWAR - At least six persons were killed and five others injured when a suicide bomber struck his explosive-packed car with a vehicle of a military convoy near Asia check post in North Waziristan Agency on Saturday.



Meanwhile, five securitymen were killed in a bomb blast in South Waziristan.



Among the killed persons there were three civilians including a child and three personnel of the security forces.



As per details, a convoy of the security forces was on its way from Bannu to Miranshah headquarters of North Waziristan. When it reached near Asia Check post a suicide bomber attacked it.



A spokesman of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) when contacted, confirmed that six persons including three personnel of the security forces were killed and five others were injured. Soon after the suicide attack, the dead bodies of the killed people and injured persons were shifted to the agency headquarters hospital in Miranshah. Condition of the several wounded was stated to be precarious.



The ISPR spokesman said that soon after the suicide attack, the security forces cordoned off the area and high alert was declared there. No arrest has so far been made. However, the routine traffic on roads and economic activities came to a standstill in almost the entire North Waziristan Agency.



In response to a question, the ISPR spokesman said that it would be premature to say something about the elements involved in such type of terrorist acts. In this respect, he said that on completion of the investigations and analysis, one could be in a better position to form any opinion. The spokesman, however, reminded that the alleged militants (calling them Taliban) had promised that they would not attack the security forces and government installations.



Meanwhile, militants on Saturday blew up a vehicle of the security forces with improvised explosive device near Wana in South Waziristan Agency, killing five personnel of the security forces and injuring two others, reports received here from the area said.



The convoy of the security forces was going towards FC Base Camp located in Ziarak Noor area of South Waziristan Agency and when their vehicle reached near Base Camp, an improvised explosive device blew it up, killing five personnel of the security forces and injuring critically two others. All the injured have been shifted to Agency Headquarter Hospital Wana. The killed and injured men have not been identified so far.
