ISLAMABAD Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has reiterated that waging a struggle for supremacy of law and justice would be the Hobsons choice for superior judiciary, urging the lawyers fraternity to deliver justice regardless of how heavy price they pay for it.
The Chief Justice was addressing the lawyers in a ceremony held at the premises of the Supreme Court of Pakistan here on Thursday.
It is a testing time for the judiciary as it is throwing off the mask of those who were maligning the judiciary through conspiracies, he observed.
Quoting the famous saying of Caliph Hazrat Ali (A.S.), the Chief Justice said, A rule of infidelity (Kufr) can survive across the globe but a rule of injustice can not survive.
He said that the people deposited faith in the judiciary because of its principled stand and vowed that the judiciary would not break the peoples trust.
He feared that hopelessness would arise if courts fail to deliver justice adding there was pressing need for justice in the state.
The state would face miscellaneous turmoil, if, unfortunately, bias justice came across the ill luck of the poor people of the state.
Justice is the strong link among judiciary, lawyers and people, he said, adding that people want to see independent courts working in line with the Constitution of Pakistan.
Thanks to Allah, young lawyers have lived up to the expectations of people, remarked Justice Chaudhry.
He noted that the main concern of a common man is immediate delivery of the justice, as he does not understand the legal complications.
The Chief Justice further said the women would be encouraged to join legal profession.
They would also be encouraged to join judiciary as judges of the courts, he added.
Expectations are high from the women lawyers, who also led the lawyers movement from the front, the Chief Justice said.
He said that number of family and civil judges were being increased, saying 100 civil judges have been hired in the Punjab while recommendations have been forwarded to the Government for the appointment of civil judges in the NWFP.
