Coalition summit meeting today

ISLAMABAD - The crucial two-day meeting of four parties alliance holding the reins of power is scheduled here on Wednesday (today) to take stock of the prevailing political and economic unrest in the country in the backdrop of the ongoing military operation in the tribal areas.
In the light of the background interviews with the leaders of coalition parties, the meeting would unlikely break the impasse on the prime difference between the PPP and PML-N on judges’ reinstatement. However, the parties could address some of the irritants marring the smooth functioning of the coalition government.
The meeting was convened mainly on the demand of Awami National Party (ANP) and Jamiat-I-Ulema-I-Islam (JUI-F) heads (Asfandyar Wali and Maulana Fazlur Rehman) when both of them had held a detailed meeting with Premier Gilani a couple of weeks back and raised a number of concerns regarding what they termed ‘unilateral’ running of the affairs by the coalition government.
The officials in the Prime Minister Secretariat informed The Nation that the main object of convening the meeting of the coalition partners was to discuss the ways and means to strengthen the ongoing efforts to bring peace and stability to the tribal region, law and order problems, energy shortages, hike in fuel prices and rising food stuff prices.
The meeting would likely be attended by PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, JUI-F Amir Maulana Fazlur Rehman, ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari.
The two-day meeting would primarily address the issue of the ongoing military operation in the tribal areas and the level of cooperation being offered by Pakistan to United States in the ongoing international war on terror.
