Zardari hails China handling of Xinjiang

ISLAMABAD - Backing fully internal and external approach for promoting harmony, President Asif Ali Zardari Wednesday commended China for handling the recent incidents in Xinjiang with great sagacity.
Spokesperson to the President former Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the President made these remarks during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador in Islamabad Lue Zhaohui who called on him prior to the China Task Force review meeting in the Presidency.
“Pakistan appreciated the fact that life and property of Muslims of China are fully protected and their rights including the right to worship fully safeguarded”, the President said. The President said that Pakistan solidly supported China’s efforts to promote stability and harmony at home and abroad. He said that Pakistan and China were true friends and Pakistan attached the highest importance to China’s progress and prosperity.
Pakistan is most impressed by the philosophy of Chinese leadership to promote harmonious society and a harmonious world, the President remarked.
Following the Ambassador’s call, a meeting of the high-level Task Force on China was held to review the follow-up actions taken on the President’s directives to speed up various cooperative agreements.
The meeting was attended by Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan, Minister for Investment, Salman Faruqui, Secretary General to the President Kamal Majidullah, SAPM, Khalil Ahmad, Ambassador at Large, Chairman, BOI, Governor State Bank, Secretaries of various ministries, Pak Ambassador to China, as well as the Chinese Ambassador in Islamabad who was extended special invitation.
Briefing the journalists Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting reviewed progress in areas including building of dams and Thar Coal project, transfer of hybrid technology cooperation between PARC and Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), export of Northern Areas fruits to China, MOUs on development of fisheries and sugarcane and the joint Pak-China Economic Commission.
