ISLAMABAD - President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani congratulated Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh on the victory of Congress Party and his reassumption of Prime Ministers office.
In his message, the Prime Minister said It gives me great pleasure to convey on behalf of the people of Pakistan and on my own behalf our heartfelt felicitations on Congress Partys impressive election victory and your reassumption of office as Prime Minister of the Republic of India.
The election outcome is indeed a manifestation of the confidence reposed by the people of India in your sagacious leadership, he added.
He said his government remains committed to working with the Indian government in addressing the common challenges that beset the region and the world at large.
I also take this opportunity to reiterate our commitment to resolve peacefully all outstanding issues between the two countries so as to usher in an era of peace, progress and prosperity for the peoples of the Subcontinent, Gilani added.
AFP adds: President Zardari congratulated Indias Congress party-led alliance on their recent election victory and pledged their continued commitment to peace, the foreign ministry said. Please accept my heartiest congratulations on the victory of the Congress party in the recently held general elections, Zardari said in a message to All India Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi, which was released to Indian media.
May I also take this opportunity to assure you that Pakistan remains committed to peace and prosperity in South Asia and will continue to work with India to resolve all outstanding issues between the two countries peacefully and in a just manner, Zardari said.
