Terror network in Punjab getting strong: Owais

LAHORE - NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani has hinted at a possibility for the continuation of the military operation in the tribal areas for further few months, and connected peace in the FATA to peaceful Afghanistan.

“It is a three-decade old problem, which cannot be resolved in few weeks or months. That is why the military operation in the tribal areas could continue for further five to six months”, he said. As long as there is a continuous strife in Afghanistan, there can be no peace in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).”

He was talking to senior journalists at the Governor’s House here on Monday. Punjab Governor Salman Taseer was also present there.

Owais Ghani revealed that the so-called Jehadi organisations were in the process of extending their network into the Punjab. “These organisations, in the name of Jehad, are preparing people of the Southern Punjab for suicide attacks, which is a dangerous carry-over from the troubled FATA.
