LAHORE - Nimaz-e-Janaza of senior columnist Irshad Ahmed Haqqani was held on Sunday at a ground near his residence in Gulberg. After funeral prayers, body of Irshad Haqqani was sent to his ancestral city Kasur for burial. Haqqani died of cardiac arrest in the morning.
Hundreds of people from various walks of life attended the funeral of Irshad Haqqani. Prominent among those were former finance minister Sartaj Aziz, former foreign minister Khursheed Mahmood Kasuri, Jamaat-i-Islami leader Aslam Saleemi, Farid Ahmed Piracha, Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, provincial minister Nadeem Kamran, PPP leader Aslam Gill and Munir Ahmed Khan.
Senior PPP leader Munawar Anjum presented floral wreath on behalf of President Asif Zardari. Pervaiz Rasheed and Nadeem Kamran also went to Kasur to participate in the burial.
Meanwhile, senior politicians have expressed sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Irshad Haqqani and termed it a big loss for the country.
They prayed that Almighty Allah may rest his soul in eternal peace and give courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
President Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Governor Salman Taseer, PML-N leader Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad, PML-N leader Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa and Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, in their separate messages have condoled the sad demise of Irshad Haqqani.
