Mush to face trial upon return

ISLAMABAD Pakistan Peoples Party government would not show any flexibility to former dictator Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf in case he jumped into politics in violation of his 'exit deal and he would be made accountable before the courts in Nawab Akbar Bugti murder as well as illegal detention of Supreme Court judges cases, the sources in the government disclosed.
However, the sources aware of the 'exit deal of Musharraf ruled out any possibility of his return to Pakistan and taking part in national politics. The sources further said that in case the former dictator breached the clandestine deal, the ruling coalition would also be free to act according to the law of the land against him and he would be subjected to face the courts of law, particularly, in the murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti and illegal confinement of Supreme Court judges-both non-bailable crimes and the accused has to surrender himself to the courts.
The sources in the government disclosed to TheNation that in case Gen (R) Musharraf returned, law would take its course and he would have to surrender himself to the courts.
An FIR of Nawab Akbar Bugtis murder case was lodged against Musharraf, former Premier Shaukat Aziz and others with Dera Bugti police in October 2009 on the direction of Balochistan High Court while a case of illegal detention of judges of Supreme Court against him was registered on the direction of District and Sessions Judge Islamabad in August 2009.
The sources aware of the whole episode informed that the Government had not used any influence against lodging of these cases against former president since he had started giving political statements and was also engaged in meetings with the politicians in violation of his exit deal.
The sources further said that the way Musharraf was holding meetings with politicians in Dubai over the past several months, the elements who had facilitated his honourable exit from Pakistan were not happy with him as under the arrangement it was agreed that Musharraf would lead a retired life without poking his his nose in national politics.
The sources said that keeping in view the activism of Musharraf in politics the government had worked out a counter strategy and all the other stakeholders, who had facilitated his safe and honourable exit, were on board. Under the plan Musharraf would be given no concession in case he landed back and he would have to face the legal course. This can land him in police custody with slim changes of getting bail in both the above-mentioned cases.
Sources in the Federal Law and Justice Ministry confirmed that the government would not do any favour to Gen (R) Musharraf and like an ordinary citizen of Pakistan he would have to face the charges against him. The sources said that the option of invoking Article 6 against him was also open.
