Two NAB officials jailed on SC order

ISLAMABAD - Two senior officers of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) under the directives of Supreme Court (SC) have been arrested and sent to jail on contempt of court charges.
The Apex Court’s bench ordered the arrest of Colonel (Retd) Tariq Bhatti (Monitoring Wing) and Muhammad Aslam (Investigation Crime Wing) for detaining and beating an employee of Haris Steel Mills.
The bench comprising Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Muhammad Qaim Jan Khan and Justice Ch. Ejaz Yousaf heard the case suo motu.
The Chief Justice had taken notice of the incident that occurred Thursday after the hearing of a case of Haris Steel Mills and on an application given by counsels Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada, Waseem Sajjad and Dr.Babar Awan.
The three counsels also appeared before the court in the case of Haris Steel Mills which was adjourned for August 6.     
The bench adjourned further proceedings regarding the two arrested officials till August 6 with a direction to NAB not to harass the accused.
Tariq Bhatti and Muhammad Aslam along with some NAB employees carrying guns were alleged to have manhandled Muhammad Irfan, an employee of Haris Steel Mills and dragged him from the bar room to the parking area of the Supreme Court.
The Chief Justice directed Attorney General Malik Muhammad Qayyum and Prosecutor General NAB Danishwar Malik along with Chairman NAB Naveed Ahsan and the two officials who violated the order of the court, to appear before the court during the proceedings of the suo motu notice.    
At the start of the court proceedings the bench directed the DSP present in the courtroom to arrest both the officials and send them to jail for violating orders of the Supreme Court and beating a person in the court premises.     
On the direction of the court Muhammad Irfan was produced before the court. The bench released the detainee and directed the NAB not to harass him. After their arrest the two NAB officials were sent to Police Station Secretariat in a police van.
