By CH AAMER WAQAS October 24, 2008 LAHORE - Governor Punjab Salman Taseer is yet to sign the amended Land Revenue Act thereby causing a delay in paving way for the restoration of the Commissioner office in the province.
According to details divulged by a source, on Tuesday last, Salman Taseer has been briefed over the proposed amendments in the Act and working of the Divisional Commissioners by a team of Administrative Secretaries, Abdul Razzaq Bhatti of Law, Khawaja Naeem of Local Govt and Community Development Department and others concerned officers, who were led by Chief Secy Punjab Javed Mahmood.
‘It was maintained that the Divisional Commissioners, to be an appellate authority, would be given powers of the Board of Revenue under the Punjab Land Revenue Amendment Ord, which are presently vested in the Executive Dist Officers-Revenue’, said a senior officer who ,added, that there was a possibility that the Governor could sign the amendment in a day or two.
