Punjab govt to remain under constant threat
By MUBASHIR HASSAN August 26, 2008 Keeping in view the party position in Punjab Assembly, the PML-N is still short of 16 members to claim simple majority in a House of 371 members but in the presence of around 36 members of PML-Q forward bloc, PML-N will likely to maintain its majority with their support.
The PML-N has 170 members in Punjab, whereas it needs a simple majority of 186 members to form independent government in the province, in case PPP withdraws its support any time. The PPP is the second largest party in Punjab with 107 legislators, followed by the PML-Q, which has a total strength of 84 members. The PML-Q forward bloc has emerged as the fourth largest force in the Punjab Assembly, as its leader Najaf Sial claims to have the support of 36 members.
The PML-F, which has got three seats in Punjab Assembly, is also supporting PML-N government along with MMA, which has two legislators, while only four MPAs have so far maintained their independent position in the House. It is to be noted that 26 independent legislators formally joined the PML-N immediately after February 18 polls while only four sided with the PPP.
